Following the launch of Apple’s first MiniLED display ProDisplayXDR in December 2019, Apple will launch two mainstream MiniLED backlight products in 2021, including 10-12-inch iPad and 15-17-inch Mac-Book . Compared with the impact of the epidemic in the same period in 2020, the production and operation of various industries in the first quarter of 2021 have returned to normal rhythm. As one of the most promising display technologies at present, Mini/Micro LED continues the investment enthusiasm in 2020, and is moving towards scale and commercialization with the gradual improvement of all links in the industry chain. According to incomplete statistics, in the first quarter of 2021, the new investment in Mini/Micro LED and other fields is about 8.6 billion yuan. Under the influence of major terminal brand factories successively launching Mini/Micro LED products and actively cultivating the market, corporate investment including equipment and other Mini/Micro LED supporting links has become more courageous.

Since 2021, many home appliance manufacturers have announced MiniLED products. TCL, Skyworth, LG, Xiaomi, Konka, Changhong, Hisense, Philips and other manufacturers have announced MiniLED TV products one after another. Samsung, as the global leader in OLED panels, also launched on March 22 this year. MiniLED TVs are planned to produce 2 million units throughout the year. In addition, in the field of tablets and notebook computers, MiniLED is also popular. According to LEDinside analysis, in 2021, Apple, Samsung and other major brands plan to launch laptops and tablets fully equipped with MiniLED backlight displays. The supply chain has advanced to the fourth in 2020. The beginning of the season to pull goods, so that the demand for MiniLED chips soared.

Compared with OLED, MiniLED can save power by 80%, display life can be extended by 3-5 times, and cost is more than 15%. The display effect is similar to OLED. In the field of medium and large size, it becomes the next generation display technology to replace OLED and LCD.

TrendForce predicts that the MiniLED market is expected to reach US$130 million in 2021, and the CAGR from 2021 to 2024 is expected to reach 83.84%.

After calculation, the products of the three major manufacturers of Samsung, Huawei and Apple in 2021 are expected to drive the upstream monthly shipment of 110,000 MiniLED chips, corresponding to a market size of more than 3 billion yuan. Based on the shipments of TVs, tablets, notebooks and LED displays in 2020, the penetration rates of different MiniLEDs are flexibly calculated: under the assumption that the penetration rates of TV, tablets, notebooks and LED displays are all 1% , MiniLED backlight products can provide a monthly demand for 150,000 chips. If the penetration rate reaches 10%, the monthly demand for MiniLED chips will reach 1.5 million.
