Kelvin temperature scale is a kind of daily life in the use of less common temperature units, so many people do not know much about it. However, it does not matter, this article will take you to understand the details of the Kelvin temperature scale.
About Kelvin Temperature Scale
Kelvin temperature scale is a temperature standard commonly used in science, mainly used in physical science and engineering. The Kelvin temperature scale is an absolute temperature standard that does not depend on the nature of any particular substance.
History of the Kelvin temperature scale
The Kelvin scale began in 1848 when Lord Kelvin defined an absolute temperature scale based on the Carnot cycle, which was later named after him. Kelvin scale units become (K) is the main unit of temperature in the International System of Units (SI). The Kelvin temperature scale is based on Celsius degrees, but starts at absolute zero, which is 273.15 degrees lower than the zero-point Celsius temperature scale.

Relationship between the Kelvin scale and absolute zero
Kelvin temperature scale is the international system (SI) in the thermodynamic temperature measurement of the basic unit to absolute zero as a starting point. Absolute zero is the lowest temperature that mankind can reach, in fact he is too low we can never reach.
Absolute zero is theoretically called the lowest temperature at which the thermal motion of atoms and molecules is minimized, which is classically speaking a state of rest.
But quantum uncertainty determines the example still has a finite zero-point energy, absolute zero in the Kelvin scale expressed as 0 K, that is, 0 K for -273.15 ℃. Now we know that gases do not shrink to zero in volume when cooled to absolute zero because they condense to liquid at higher temperatures.
Expressing the formula
The relationship between the Kelvin temperature scale and degrees Celsius can be expressed by a mathematical formula:
Kelvin temperature = degrees Celsius + 273.15
Then can be converted to:Celsius = Kelvin temperature – 273.15
If we convert our body’s normal temperature of 37 degrees Celsius into a Kelvin temperature
our solution would be: Temperature (K) = 37°C + 273.15 = 310.15K
Note that the unit of Kelvin temperature is Kelvin, not degrees Kelvin.

Differences and commonalities between the Kelvin temperature scale and other temperature scales
Physicists commonly used temperature scale is not only what we said above Celsius degrees (℃) and Kelvin (K) and Fahrenheit degrees (F) and Rankin degrees (R).
Fahrenheit differs from Celsius in that when Celsius is 0, Fahrenheit is at 32 (F). But instead of getting the relationship between them by adding 32 directly to Celsius, the following formula is used:
Fahrenheit = [Celsius x (9/5)] + 32
The Rankine scale is used in the same way as Fahrenheit, but its zero point is set to absolute zero. The relationship between Fahrenheit degrees and Rankine degrees is to add 459.67 to Fahrenheit degrees
Rankine degrees = [degrees Celsius x (9/5)] + 32 + 459.67
The difference between the Kelvin temperature and the Fahrenheit temperature is that:
When the degree Fahrenheit is 0 (F)
Kelvin (K) = [degrees Celsius x (9/5) + 32] + 273.15
To convert Kelvin to Lang temperature, you have to multiply the Kelvin temperature by 9/5
Other Applications of the Kelvin Scale
1. The kelvin scale of secondary use is based on the individual colors of light to determine the intensity of light, also known as color temperature. Color temperature is a measure of the warmth or coolness of light.
Color temperature is based on the principle that blackbody radiation emitters light characterized by a frequency distribution of temperatures, with colors below 4000 K appearing reddish and those above 6000 K bluish.
Color temperature has a significant impact on lighting, and spaces used for complex activities require more precise color temperatures than ambient lighting. Some of the color temperatures we commonly use are warm white, soft white, neutral white, cool white, bright white, and daylight.
For example, if we want to create a cozy and welcoming environment, we can use 2700K – warm white as the color temperature, because of its warmth and seductiveness similar to a candle flame, creating a warm atmosphere.
Or we can use a brighter 3000K-soft white light, can let us more clarity in the light to complete the task, it creates a cozy space is not too harsh on our eyes and so on.
Due to the high brightness of LED screens, when used indoors, we usually reduce the brightness of the LED screens to avoid affecting the color temperature of other indoor lighting facilities.
2. Temperature measurement. When we use the thermometer, we need to mark the scale on the wall of the tube and mark the scale with numbers, temperature scale is a way to measure the temperature relative to the starting point (0 or zero) and the unit of measurement.
These numbers are arbitrary, as in the case of what we know as the freezing point of water and boiling water, which is achieved by defining them as 0°C and 100°C, respectively.
We measure temperature in a variety of scales and units, as we have stated above for example:
- Celsius is expressed in °C
- Fahrenheit is expressed in F
- Kelvin is expressed in K
- Rankine degrees are expressed in R
3. For engineering studies, the Kelvin scale is typically used for two purposes, it is primarily used to measure temperature relative to absolute zero. For this reason, the Kelvin scale is used for measurements of stars, planets, black holes, galaxies, regions of space, specific locations on Earth, nuclear explosions, etc., and for cryogenics.
Advantages of using the Kelvin temperature scale
The Kelvin temperature scale starts at absolute zero and provides the actual temperature of an object, rather than a measurement relative to a secondary temperature. Therefore, the Kelvin scale is more suitable for geographical environments where measurements are hot or cold.
