P6, P10 and P16 LEDs are the three most commonly used outdoor LED modules, when they form a large outdoor screen, we look similar, so some people will be curious about how to judge the difference between P6, P10 and P16 LEDs. Don’t worry, let’s read on to learn more from the article to find the answer.
What do the “P” and the numbers stand for?
Many people should be the main to, all the LED display or LED strip will be in front with a P and numbers, such as “P6 indoor LED display”, “P8 outdoor LED display” and so on.
In fact, here the “P” is “point spacing” abbreviation, on behalf of the LED module above each lamp bead and the distance between the lamp beads. Followed by the number represents the distance between the lamp beads and lamp beads, such as P6, is the distance between the lamp beads and lamp beads for 6mm. The distance of the lamp beads determines the resolution and viewing distance of the LED display.
Comparison of p6, p10, p16 LED display screen
Pixel Pitch
If we disassemble the module on the LED display for detailed observation, we will find that the gap between P6,P10 and P16 LEDs is different. It can be found by measuring with a ruler:
- P6 LED: 6mm
- P10 LED: 10mm
- P16 LED: 16mm
Module Size
LED display is composed of many small LED modules, the size will be different for different models of LED modules. Some modules are common, such as P2.5, P6.67 and P5 module size is 320*160mm. The following is about the size of P6,P10 and P16 LED modules:
- P6 LED: 192*192mm
- P10 LED: 320*160mm
- P16 LED :256*256mm
Number of pixels
The number of pixels refers to the total number of LED beads in one square meter of LED display. Since the size of most LED modules is fixed, the larger the dot pitch, the lower the corresponding number of LED beads.
- P6 LED: 27777 dots/m2
- P10 LED: 10000 dots/m2
- P16 LED: 3906 dots/m2
LED package type
According to the different LED packaging technology, the types of LED beads are mainly COB, SMD and DIP. COB is only suitable for LED display with dot pitch less than 1mm, while DIP is only suitable for LED display with dot pitch less than 10mm, so between P1-P10, SMD technology is generally used for packaging. And P16 which is bigger than P10 is packaged with DIP technology.
Visible distance
The visible distance of the LED display is closely related to the pitch. When we are too close, we will see the small dots on the screen, thus affecting the viewing effect, so when purchasing LED display, LED display manufacturers’ sales staff usually ask about the size of the screen and the viewing distance. Generally speaking, LED screen dot pitch of about 1.5 times is the best viewing distance. Therefore, we can conclude that the viewing distance of P6, P10 and P16 LED screen is:
- P6 LED screen: 9 meters
- P10 LED screen: 15 meters
- P16 LED screen: 24 meters
Scanning Mode
Scanning mode refers to the ratio of the lighted LED display to the screen. When we control the board to scan the whole LED screen, if only half of it is lit, then its scanning mode is one-half, and the other one-quarter, one-eighth, etc. are also similar principles. Different models of LED modules have different scanning methods, the following are about the scanning methods of P6,P10 and P16 LED screens:
- P6 LED screen: 8 sweeps and 4 sweeps
- P10 LED screen: 4-sweep and 5-sweep
- P16 LED screen: 1 sweep
P6, P10, and P16 LED screens: how to choose?
They have different application scenarios, so we need to look at them differently. If the viewing distance is far away, such as the kind of outdoor LED advertisement supported by columns or the traffic LED display used on the highway, we can consider P10 or P16, while if it is the LED display used on the outdoor wall, due to the viewing distance is relatively close, then P6 is a better choice.
