Project overview
This project involved an outdoor LED screen installed on the campus playground of a primary school in Vietnam. The school administration purchased the screen for the new-student welcome ceremony in September and other temporary events, including school speeches, holiday performances, and graduation ceremonies.
School administrators wanted the display to meet the viewing needs of approximately 1,200 teachers and students. JYLED’s engineers therefore created an initial design for a 5 × 3 m LED screen.
However, because the audience seating extended across a wide horizontal area of the playground, the engineers also designed a 1.5 × 3 m auxiliary screen for each side of the main display. This arrangement expanded viewing coverage on both sides and allowed administrators to show different content on the side screens for different events, adding more information to the stage presentation.

Why choose a rental LED display?
The school needed to set up the screen to display content on event days, while the playground had to remain available for sports and other recreational activities at other times. The display therefore did not need to remain on the playground permanently and only had to be installed temporarily on specific dates.
This type of temporary screen needs the following characteristics:
- Lightweight: Workers can move the screen more easily.
- Fast installation and removal: Workers can quickly install or dismantle the LED panels according to the school’s needs.
A rental LED display meets both requirements. Its cabinets are relatively slim and lightweight, and the built-in quick locks on each LED cabinet allow workers to assemble and dismantle the screen quickly.
Why choose a P5 LED display?
The display was installed on a platform at the playground, while chairs were arranged on the field for the audience. Based on photos of the site provided by the customer, our engineers estimated that the front row would be approximately 5 m from the screen and the back row approximately 10–13 m away.
The engineers recommended a P5 LED screen because its best viewing distance is 5–10 m, placing more than 95% of the on-site audience within the optimal viewing range. Even when attendance is high and the back rows extend beyond 10 m, viewers at those distances can still see clear images on the screen.
Selecting a screen with a smaller pixel pitch would reduce the number of viewers positioned within its optimal viewing range. Choosing a larger pixel pitch, on the other hand, could cause visible pixelation for audience members closest to the screen.

Factory aging test
After the LED modules were produced in the workshop and passed quality inspection, they were not packed and shipped directly to the customer. Before transportation, the LED modules underwent a 72-hour aging test at the factory.
First stage of the aging test
All LED modules displayed solid red, green, blue, white, and other colors for 48 hours. Displaying the same color on every module allowed workers to quickly identify defective pixels, areas of uneven brightness, and other abnormalities, and then remove any nonconforming modules.

Second stage of the aging test
After the first-stage test, workers assembled the LED modules into LED cabinets and then connected the cabinets to form the complete LED display. The screen displayed videos and images for 24 hours, with particular attention paid to the stability of the electrical connections and the consistency of the displayed colors.
JYLED’s aging test not only removes defective LED modules but also helps improve LED light-output stability and reduce the rate of subsequent brightness degradation. A screen that has completed the 72-hour aging test can maintain its maximum display brightness for a longer period.
Packing and transporting the LED panels
Workers placed the LED cabinets that had passed workshop inspection and aging tests into flight cases. Dividers inside each case separated the cabinets to prevent them from colliding and damaging components. Every divider and the inner walls of the flight cases were also covered with impact-resistant foam to protect the cabinets from impact damage during transportation.
The school was located in Vietnam, while JYLED’s factory is in Shenzhen, China. Because the two locations are relatively close and the school did not have an urgent delivery deadline, the screen was transported by truck over land.
The customer selected door-to-door delivery. All packed flight cases were loaded onto the truck by forklift, and the driver then transported the P5 rental LED screen to the school.

First installation of the P5 rental LED screen
After the school administrators received the shipment, JYLED’s engineers provided remote guidance for the first installation on the playground platform.
The main installation steps were as follows:
- Confirm the screen locations on the platform and assemble the steel support frames for the three LED screens in sequence.
- Remove the LED cabinets from the flight cases, then secure them to the steel frames from bottom to top using the quick locks.
- Under normal circumstances, JYLED’s workers install the LED modules, power supplies, receiving cards, and other components in the rental LED cabinets before shipment. The school’s installation team only needs to connect the signal and power cables to the cabinets in sequence according to the drawings.
- Connect the main power supply, use the NovaStar MCTRL300 to control the displayed content, and adjust the screen parameters as required until the display achieves the desired result.
The following image shows the completed screen after the school’s workers installed it for the first time:

Ultimately, the school in Vietnam used this P5 rental LED display to provide teachers and students with a memorable viewing experience during holiday performances and the new-student welcome event.
Conclusion
For events that need an LED screen only at specific times but use one repeatedly over the long term—such as school speeches, stage performances, and product launches—a rental LED display can be an ideal choice.
A rental LED screen can be installed quickly to meet the display requirements of a temporary event and dismantled just as efficiently afterward. Storing it in flight cases in a warehouse also requires relatively little space.
FAQ
Will the P5 Rental LED Screen Show Flicker or Scan Lines During Live Streaming, Photography, or Mobile-Phone Recording?
No. The P5 rental LED display selected for this project has a refresh rate of 3840 Hz. Whether the screen is recorded with a mobile phone, photographed, or captured for a live broadcast, it will not show flicker or scan-line problems.
What Factors Determine the Price of a P5 Rental LED Screen Project?
Before purchasing a P5 rental LED screen, note that differences in the LED brand, refresh rate, cabinet material, control-equipment model, power-supply model, and other specifications or materials will affect the final project cost.
P4 vs. P5 Rental LED Screens: What Is the Difference?
A P4 rental LED screen has a higher pixel density, providing a comparatively finer image and a shorter best viewing distance.
Approximately How Much Screen Area Is Required to Build a 4K P5 Rental LED Display?
Using a 500 × 500 mm LED cabinet as an example, each cabinet has a resolution of 100 × 100 pixels. A 4K screen has a resolution of 3840 × 2160 pixels, so the screen requires approximately 3840 ÷ 100 ≈ 39 LED cabinets horizontally and 2160 ÷ 100 ≈ 22 LED cabinets vertically.
A 4K P5 rental LED screen therefore requires 39 × 22 = 858 LED cabinets in total, resulting in a screen area of 858 × 500 × 500 mm = 214.5 m².
Indoor vs. Outdoor P5 Rental LED Screens: What Is the Difference?
An indoor P5 rental LED screen operates in a relatively stable environment, does not require a very high ingress protection rating, and usually does not need cooling fans. Its price is therefore comparatively lower.
An outdoor P5 rental LED screen must prevent rain and dust from damaging the screen components. It requires an IP65 protection rating and usually needs cooling fans, so the project cost is comparatively higher.
